The story describes how the author met Audrey as part of his family during World War II in Holland when he was seven and she thirteen. Audrey lived with her mother and grandfather in Arnhem, close to where the author spent his vacations with his grandparents, with whom Audrey's mother was related. Eager to become a ballerina, Audrey took ballet lessons at the Arnhem Conservatory during the war. The author remembers Audrey's lovely smile and how she endeared him with her goodbye kiss. The story further details how enchanted he was when he met her again much later in life in Switzerland, then a famous film star, at a very private party, and could share memories with her of those frightful World War II days.

Everyone my age (over 70) knows of Audrey Hepburn, but few of us knew her. John gives us a heart warming glimpse into her life through his obvious love for her. My two favorite movies John mentioned in the book were also the two favorite movies of my daughters who are in their early thirties. My oldest was attracted to her by her love of dancing. The way Audrey petitely carried herself enthralled her. John's surprised meeting her at the end is the stuff of romance novels. He got his wish and we got to be a part of it.Product details

I adore Audrey Hepburn and love to hear new stories about her. Can't get enough. And this short story was a nice little peek into her life, especially pre-fame, as a young girl... loved it. -)

An engaging story from start to finish. Evocative of a particular time and place but ultimately timeless and universal in touching the human heart.
